In a tough blow for the Colorado Buffaloes, safety Shilo Sanders left the field early in their Week 2 game against Nebraska after sustaining what appears to be a broken forearm. The injury, confirmed by his father and head coach, Deion Sanders, who stated "I think a broken forearm or something like that, so he won't be back in at all.”

The sixth-year senior, who played a pivotal role in Colorado’s defense, was forced to leave the game during the first quarter after recording two tackles. While it remains unclear exactly which play led to the injury, Shilo’s absence leaves a significant gap in the Buffaloes' secondary. His leadership and experience were crucial, especially after his standout 2023 season in which he earned All-Pac-12 honors, posting 70 tackles, a pick-six, and forcing four fumbles.

The timing of Shilo’s injury compounds an already rough outing for Colorado, who went into halftime trailing Nebraska 28-0. The Buffaloes struggled on both sides of the ball, with Nebraska freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola leading a passing attack that exposed Colorado’s defense. Additionally, Colorado’s run defense faltered, allowing Nebraska to dominate the ground game.

The game marked a frustrating night for the Sanders family, with Shilo's brother Shedeur, the Buffaloes’ quarterback, also facing significant pressure. Shedeur was sacked four times and intercepted once for a pick-six. Meanwhile, Trevor Woods, another key defensive player, was ejected for targeting in the second quarter, further depleting Colorado’s defense.

As Colorado’s season continues, the loss of Shilo Sanders will undoubtedly spark concerns over the team’s ability to recover defensively. Shilo, a key veteran, not only provided stability in the secondary but also brought a wealth of leadership and football IQ to the Buffaloes' roster. His injury will require the team to adapt quickly as they face the tough road ahead.

For Shilo, the injury comes at a critical time in his final college football season, a campaign that started with high hopes after his transfer from Jackson State. Now, Colorado will await further updates on the severity of his injury and how long their star safety may be sidelined.
