Cowboys BREAKING: Dak Signs Gigantic New Contract At 'Deadline'

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has, over the course of this offseason during contract negotiations, made some pointed comments. Team owner Jerry Jones has, in trying to both detail the talks and keep "America's Team'' in the news, made some misleading comments.

All of that often created the impression that the stalemate would never be broken, maybe that the two sides really didn't want to stay bonded beyond Dak's final contractual year of 2024, and maybe even that there was deeply-felt animosity here.

    An example?

“I stopped, honestly, listening to things (Jerry) says to the media a long time ago. It doesn’t really hold weight with me," Prescott said not long ago.

Well, he's listening now. ... because money talks.

The Cowboys just agreed with Prescott on a four-year extension totaling $240 million ... with a record $231 million guaranteed. ... and a staggering $80 million signing bonus.

The Cowboys' feet-dragging here might've been the result of some shaken faith in Dak's ability to drive this team to postseason success.

“You could easily say, if you haven’t seen it by now, you haven’t seen it," Jones said a few days ago, while adding that he "admires'' Prescott and his "merits.''

That remark was so open to interpretation that even Prescott seems to view it as an insult, causing him to respond that "it says a lot" if his deal isn't done by Week 1 - and that what is "says'' is about "how they (the Joneses) feel'' about him.

Prescott topped the NFL in completions (410) and touchdown passes (36) last season, amassing 4,516 passing yards and ultimately finished second in MVP voting.

His demon has been his playoff performances. Prescott is just 2-5 in playoff games. The Cowboys haven't made it to the NFC Championship since 1995.

But now? The stalemate is over. The commitment has been made. The money is gigantic. The demon must be defeated.
