The biggest NFL Week 1 storyline didn't even occur on the field or during the game on Sunday.
As revealed Sunday morning, Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill was detained and later released by Miami police before MIami's first game.
His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, spoke about the situation on ESPN’s "Sunday NFL Countdown," calling it "heartbreaking." Rosenhaus also revealed how bizarre the situation was due to how big of a supporter Hill is of police officers.
"I’m deeply concerned by that, very troubled," Rosenhaus said . "We will be looking into it, we will be investigating this, we will look out for Tyreek, but I’m not going to make any allegations at this time. The most important thing is Tyreek is okay. Physically, mentally, he was very distraught about what happened."
Hill's agent even went as far as to say that Hill told the police he wanted to join the police force in the future.
"Tyreek has told me over and over that he’s a big supporter of police," Rosenhaus said. "He was telling the police there, 'I want to be a police officer in the future.' But this is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
The video of Rosenhaus talking about Hill's police aspirations has amassed nearly one million views online.
According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, "Hill was cited for reckless driving as a result of his incident outside the stadium with police. After he was pulled over, he got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer chose to place Hill in handcuffs."
The Miami-Dade Police Department director, Stephanie V. Daniels, released a statement revealing that they are investigating the situation:
"We are aware of the recent detainment of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by Miami-Dade Police Department officers. I have requested an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as further information becomes available."
Hill was able to suit up and play in the Dolphins' Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which is being played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
