Miami Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill was all over social media on Sunday, September 8 after getting detained by the Miami-Dade Police Department on his drive to the stadium.
According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Hill was "cited for reckless driving as a result of his incident outside the stadium with police. After he was pulled over, he got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer chose to place Hill in handcuffs."
Following the Dolphins' 20-17 Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hill's teammate Calais Campbell spoke with the media. During the postgame interview, he mentioned that he was also handcuffed by police at the scene.
Campbell said that he spotted Hill on the side of the road with the police officers and went to help his teammate.
The 17-year NFL veteran explained that he wanted to de-escalate the situation, but the officers felt "some kind of way," leading to Campbell being put in handcuffs as well.
"Yeah, actually they put handcuffs on me too and I was like, 'What is going on," Campbell said." I didn't understand what the issue was, but for him to put handcuffs on me, I felt some kind of way. That just goes to show you our resilience."
"Officer felt some kind of way, put handcuffs on me," Campbell later added.
"I saw Tyreek getting upper handed," Campbell added. "I just wanted to make sure everything was okay, trying to de-escalate the situation."
Campbell finished the game with one sack, one QB hit, two tackles for loss and three total tackles. Hill also had a tremendous performance, capping off the win for Miami with one touchdown, seven receptions and 130 receiving yards.
The Dolphins will look to move past their hectic Sunday and prepare for a division battle against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.
