Urban Meyer Predicts Major College Football Upset in Week 1

The atmosphere in Morgantown, WV was as fitting as ever to start the 2024 college football season on Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff”. The panel spent all day listening to some of the most passionate fans on earth belt “Take Me Home Country Roads” at the top of their lungs. Something tells me they might have gotten in Urban Meyer’s ear after he made his prediction live on the show.

He expects a massive upset to take place after predicting the West Virginia Mountaineers will beat the Penn State Nittany Lions 38-28 at home to start the season. It would be a bit of revenge after Penn State shutout West Virginia on the other side of the state line a year ago (38-15).

Meyer was joined by Matt Leinart as another member of the panel who has faith in the Mountaineers. The panel as a whole was split 2-2 on who will win the game. Strangely enough, the “College GameDay” crew on ESPN also split their vote right down the middle 3-3.

Penn State was favored to win the game by more than a touchdown ahead of kickoff but West Virginia seems to be a popular pick to not only beat the spread but also beat the No. 8 ranked team in the nation.
