    Championing Health Equity: A Conversation with Dr. Yolanda Wimberly

    Today on The Rashad Richey Morning Show , listeners had the pleasure of welcoming Chief Health Equity Officer at Grady Health System in Atlanta, Dr. Yolanda Wimberly , for an insightful interview. Dr. Wimberly, a pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist, shared the system's initiatives to improve community health and reduce disparities.

    During the interview, Dr. Wimberly highlighted the launch of new neighborhood health centers in underserved areas such as Cascade Rd. and West End. These centers have the primary goal of offering essential primary care services in healthcare deserts, thus addressing the limited healthcare access in these communities.

    In addition to the neighborhood health centers, Grady Health System is actively involved in the upcoming Black Health Matters Summit. Dr. Wimberly discussed the services Grady will offer at the summit, including mobile mammograms and prostate-specific antigen testing for prostate cancer. These services are available to all, regardless of their healthcare provider, emphasizing Grady's dedication to preventive healthcare and early detection.

    Dr. Wimberly also highlighted the Teen Experience and Leadership Program (TELP) , a summer program at Grady that allows high school students to shadow healthcare professionals and gain valuable experience in the healthcare industry. The program aims to nurture the next generation of healthcare providers.

    As the interview concluded, Dr. Wimberly emphasized the importance of community support for these initiatives. She urged listeners to attend the Black Health Matters Summit and support Grady's programs, stressing the impact of community engagement on improving healthcare outcomes and addressing disparities.
