How to keep your poolside adult beverages cold during the hot Atlanta summer

Want your poolside cocktails and frozen drinks to stay cool throughout the heat wave and beyond? Invest in some proper glassware and keep the ice outside of the carafe, says Randy Hayden, the beverage director for Atlanta's Slater Hospitality .

Why it matters: Those mortar shell-sized Stanley brand big gulps can do the trick if you're lounging around at home. To up your game, consider this hack.

How it works: Hayden, who oversees the bar and drinks programs at The Interlock's LOA and Ponce City Market's Nine-Mile Station, tells Axios that high-end acrylic does a great job insulating the drink and is virtually indistinguishable from real glass — a no-no next to a pool.

    • You can find high-quality acrylic glasses at places like Cocktail Kingdom or restaurant supply stores, he says.

Yes, and: To keep the refills coming, try filling an acrylic carafe with whatever cocktails or drinks you'd like. Place that vessel in a cooler or bucket of ice, Hayden says.

    • Don't put the ice inside the vessel. "It's already diluted, you just have the ice around it to keep the vessel itself and the acrylic cold."
