Ex-Tennessee Titans head coach's son abruptly retires from the NFL

The son of former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has decided to retire from the NFL after a week-plus of training camp, the Atlanta Falcons announced Tuesday morning.

According to Falcons head coach Raheem Morris , Tyler Vrabel is going to be placed on the reserve/retired list, signaling he is hanging up his cleats. Vrabel originally signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

While Vrabel didn't see any playing time during his first season in the NFL as he spent time on the Falcons' practice squad, he did manage to see two games in his second season, playing 57 snaps on offense and five on special teams.

Per Pro Football Focus , 54 of those snaps came at left tackle, where Vrabel did not allow a sack or pressure and posted PFF grades of 71.6 in pass-blocking and 62.1 in run-blocking.

Vrabel did not get a promotion to the active roster the entire campaign, though, and was brought back on a futures deal earlier this offseason.

When Vrabel was signed in 2022, former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who worked under Mike Vrabel in Tennessee for multiple years, was the head coach but lost his job earlier this offseason.

Smith is now in Pittsburgh, and Vrabel was fired by Tennessee in January and is now a consultant with the Cleveland Browns .
