Coco Gauff wins mixed-doubles match at Olympics after elimination from singles competition

Atlanta native Coco Gauff had an up-and-down day in tennis action at the Olympics on Tuesday. She advanced in the mixed doubles competition but lost in frustrating fashion in her singles match.

The latest: Gauff and teammate Taylor Fritz defeated Argentine tennis players Nadia Podoroska and Maximo Gonzalez during Tuesday's first-round mixed doubles match at the Paris Olympics .

State of play: It was a happy result for Gauff who made headlines earlier in the day when she argued with the chair umpire during the third-round singles match from which she was eliminated by Donna Vekic of Croatia.

    • Gauff won her first two singles matches before her loss on Tuesday.

The intrigue: Tuesday's events occurred at the same stadium that hosted the French Open where Gauff also pushed back against a call made by a chair umpire during last month's semifinals match that she lost against Iga Swiatek.

What they're saying: The Associated Press reports Gauff acknowledged that she was already losing the match, but she also said she feels " cheated " every time she plays at the French Open.

What's next: Gauff's next match will be in the women's doubles, where she and teammate Jessica Pegula will play against Linda Nosková and Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic at 7am Wednesday.

    • Gauff and Fritz's next game in the mixed doubles competition will begin at noon on Wednesday.
