Ex-Braves hurler surprisingly available with reunion making sense

The Atlanta Braves should be considering all options to improve the roster right now and add even more depth.

Atlanta is one of the deeper teams in the league and that's why it's been able to rack up wins despite a plethora of high-impact injuries. The Braves currently have the top National League Wild Card spot and an impressive 60-50 record.

The Braves were busy ahead of the trade deadline as they added more depth throughout the roster but a reunion with an old friend who surprisingly is available could make sense.

The Boston Red Sox signed former Braves hurler Lucas Luetge ahead of the 2024 campaign to a minor league deal and although he impressed with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, he never got a call-up to the big leagues. Because of this, he recently opted out of his deal to enter free agency, according to Katie Morrison-O’Day of MassLive.com.

"WooSox reliever Lucas Luetge has exercised his opt-out and is a free agent," Morrison-O’Day said. "Luetge was one of the more reliable relievers in the Worcester bullpen this season: 3.02 ERA in 31 appearances, 6 saves, 10.2 K/9 in 41 2/3 innings."

Luetge appeared in 12 games last year for the Braves and could make sense as a reunion candidate. He showed in the minors this year that he clearly still has something left in the tank, but things just didn't work out with Boston.

Every contender could use more bullpen depth and the Braves are no different. Luetge is available and would be extremely cheap. Why not take a chance on a reunion?
