    Atlanta’s track program competed in the Pat Daniels Invitational hosted by Texas High School on Feb. 15.

    Although it’s early in the season and some members are still playing basketball, Atlanta turned in great finishes against larger schools.

    Varsity Boys

    The varsity boys’ team missed out on a tie for third by half a point.

    Chris Swanson placed second as the top athlete in his division. He amassed 25 points on his own and missed out on being first overall by two points.

    Swanson placed third in pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches, placed third in the 800m run at 2:03.43 and placed first in the 1600m run at 4:56.99.

    In the shot-put event Kheaton Kinney placed fifth with a toss of 40 feet, 6 inches, Ethan Scott placed fourth in the 3200m run at 11:10.25, Andrew Allen placed fourth at 2:08.15 in the 800m run, in the 400m dash Chase Kindred placed fifth at 52.28, Markeylin Batton and Marshawn Woodberry finished 1-2 in the 200m dash with times of 22.23 and 22.52 respectively and Cooper Swanson placed fifth in the 200m dash at 23.31.

    The 4x100m relay team of Batton, Cooper Swanson, Eli Riojas and Woodberry placed third at 42.54, the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed first at 1:29.21 and the 4x400m relay team of Chris Swanson, Allen, Riojas and Kindred placed third at 3:31.53.

    Varsity Girls

    The varsity girls’ team missed out on second place by five points but still rolled up 138 points; just 13 points from overtaking first-place Hallsville.

    Atlanta finished 1-2 in the long jump as JD Larry placed first at 16 feet, 1 1/2 inches and Kym Sheppard placed second at 15 feet, 9 inches.

    Caitlyn Bailey placed first in high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 4 inches, Larry placed third in shot with a toss of 30 feet, 6 inches and Sheppard placed fourth in triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, 2 inches.

    In the 3200m run Aurelia Giesler placed fourth at 13:17.39 and Emma Allen placed fifth at 14:15.15, in the 800m run Sophie Price placed fourth at 2:31.31, in the 100m hurdles Elliana Edwards and Sheppard placed 4-5 with times of 19.95 and 20.28, in the 100m dash Toya Hurd placed third at 12.58 and AnneMarie Hanner placed fifth at 12.78, in the 400m dash Markavia Garner placed fifth at 1:04.29 and Jaliyah Gordon placed sixth at 1:05.07, in the 200m dash Hanner placed sixth at 27.48, in the 300m hurdles Edwards and Sheppard placed 3-4 with times of 54.51 and 55.57 and in the 1600m run Price and Giesler placed 2-3 with times of 5:55.14 and 5:57.84.

    The 4x100m relay team of Hurd, Makaylin King, Larry and Shamijala Gillam placed first at 49.53, the 4x200m relay team of Hanner, Hurd, Skylar Spencer and Gillam placed second at 1:46.73 and the 4x400m relay team of Gordon, Garner, Spencer and Gillam placed third at 4:16.84.

    JV Boys

    The JV boys’ team rolled up 110 points and finished second behind Hallsville (117 points). The young Rabbs did beat host Texas High, Marshall, Longview and Texas High’s freshman team.

    Grant Allen tied for first place as the top athlete in his division as he earned 24 points across the board.

    Allen placed first overall in both the 1600m run at 5:09.67 and 3200m run with a time of 11:25.66 and placed fourth in the 800m run at 2:17.45.

    Owen Flint placed fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.43, Omariea Kinney placed fourth in the 100m dash at 11.86 and third in the 200m dash at 24.50, Cobi Wells and Kason Byrd placed 4-5 in the 400m dash with times of 57.81 and 58.34 respectively and Landon Thomas placed fourth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.26.

    Atlanta’s 4x200m relay team of Jayden Riley, Marquayvious Richardson, Kayden Linwood and TJ Hamilton placed first overall at 1:34.13, and the 4x400m relay team of Riley, Hamilton, Byrd and Linwood placed first overall at 3:49.45.

    In the shot-put event Kam Williams placed second with a toss of 40 feet, 8 inches and Tevin Thursby placed fifth with a toss of 35 feet, 6 inches.

    Thursby placed first in discus with a mark of 108 feet, 6 1/2 inches and Williams placed fourth with a mark of 96 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

    JV Girls

    The JV girls’ squad placed third behind Hallsville and Longview, but ahead of Texas High and Marshall.

    Atlanta was only nine points away from tying for second place.

    Gracie McWilliams took first place as the top athlete in her division as she earned 28 points across the board.

    McWilliams placed first in the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 4 1/2 inches, third in the triple jump with a leap of 29 feet, 9 inches and second in the 400m dash at 1:06.72.

    Teammate Ryleigh Paige placed second in discus with a mark of 72 feet and sixth in shot with a toss of 23 feet, 1 inch.

    In the 100m hurdles Chloe Puckett placed fifth at 18.82, in the 100m dash Breonna Phelps placed fourth at 13.61 and Zion Bickham sixth at 13.95, in the 400m dash Abby Morales placed fourth at 1:07.81 and Phepls placed sixth at 1:08.61, in the 300m hurdles Ryleigh Thompson placed third at 54.91, in the 200m dash Heard placed second at 28.16, K. Johnson fourth at 28.77 and Bickham fifth at 28.92, and in the 1600m run Ella Stewart placed third at 6:22.00 and Addie Giesler placed fourth at 6:35.40.

    The 4x100m relay team of Ke’mauri Johnson, Zaria Johnson, Aisia Heard and Makayla Davis placed second at 53.04, the 4x200m relay team of Davis, Heard, K. Johnson and Serenity Duckett placed third at 1:53.01 and the 4x400m relay team of Morales, McWilliams, Duckett and Phelps placed second with a time of 4:35.43.
