ATTLEBORO, Mass (WPRI) — Four people were rushed to the hospital after a duplex fire broke out in Attleboro on Sunday morning.

Crews were on the scene around 9:13 a.m. after getting a call about a house fire on Mendon Road, according to the fire chief.

Two people were in that home during this fire and were rescued by two police officers in the area who first responded, the chief said.

Firefighters contained the flames to two rooms.

The officers and a man who was inside the house were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Another person in that home, a woman in her 40s, sustained serious burns and was brought to Rhode Island hospital for critical injuries.

The other unit in that duplex didn’t suffer any damage and those residents were inside when this happened, getting temporarily displaced.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation, and the department said there was an estimated $100,000 in damages.
