EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — El Dorado Hills hosts a Fourth of July celebration at its community pool Thursday. From 1-4 p.m., patrons can celebrate the anniversary of America’s declared independence from Britain at the community pool on Harvard Way, according to the event website. There is music, games and a snack bar.

Countless animals have paid with their lives to satisfy people’s desire to play cowboy. Cattle are zapped with electric hotshots so they'll charge out of the chute, calves have their necks twisted as they are violently slammed into the ground, and horses are viciously spurred into bucking. Animals have suffered broken backs and necks, heart attacks and aneurysms.

Sacramento Zoo, other establishments reducing hours due to heat wave
SACRAMENTO - Multiple Sacramento area establishments will be reducing their hours due to the extreme heat this week. Starting Monday, the Sacramento Zoo will allow entry until 1 p.m. with a closing time of 2 p.m. Sacramento Zoo staff said the early closing times are to ensure the safety and comfort of staff and guests. The animals will also be beating the heat by accessing cool indoor areas in their enclosures, according to zoo staff. The change in hours will run through this Friday and regular hours will resume on Saturday, July 6. Over at the Sacramento History Museum, staff say they will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- but the daytime Old Sacramento Underground Tours have been canceled for the week. In Placer County, officials will close Hidden Falls Regional Park from July 2-6 due to the heat. This same park closed for a time in early June, also due to excessive heat. Downtown Stockton has also canceled its Main Street Market that was scheduled for July 9.

On this route that retraces Genghis Kahn’s 13th century postal system, riders use maps and GPS (global positioning systems) to navigate a network of 27 horse stations where they change horses every 35 kilometres. A Q&A with four Derby participants follows the film and a portion of ticket sales will support locals Ali Woodward and Melissa Montgomery in their 2025 Mongol Derby quest. Musical Petting Zoo hits the right notes
Accompanying the noises of summer construction projects at Oak Ridge High School on June 5 was a cacophony of booms, hoots, pings, blares and rat-a-tat-tats. About 50 elementary- and middle school-aged children were welcomed to the high school in El Dorado Hills for a musical petting zoo, where kids got to know trombones, marimbas and many other instruments.
