(FOX40.COM) — A mountain biker was pulled from the confluence trail in the Auburn State Recreation Area on Monday after a serious injury, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP’s Valley Air Division was called to assist the CAL FIRE Grass Valley unit in locating and rescuing the mountain biker.

Initial reports said the rider had possibly fractured their femur and would need to be hoisted from the trail.

The rider was found upstream from the confluence of the American River and based on the rider’s pain level it was clear that they needed to be hoisted from the trail.

After briefly landing and preparing the helicopter for hoisting operations, the air crew deployed a Bauman bag and backboard to carry out the patient.

Once loaded onto the hoist, the rider was brought to the Old Forest Hill Road Bridge, which was temporarily closed for the operation, where an awaiting ambulance loaded the rider and transported them to the hospital
