The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man they say is responsible for shooting a 24-year-old woman at her front door.

Derick Gene Kilgore, 40, is wanted for aggravated assault in relation to a shooting Sunday on the 1000 block of McNutt Way, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

He is known to frequent the areas of McNutt Way and Bennock Mill Road, according to the release.

At about 10 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 1000 block of McNutt Way and met with a 24-year-old woman who said Kilgore knocked on her door and when she opened it, he shot her, according to an incident report.

Deputies met with a witness who said Kilgore and his wife came to visit her, even though she did not want Kilgore on her property, according to the report. She said he went outside and she heard a gunshot.

When he went back inside to get his belongings, the witness asked what he was shooting at and he told her he "felt like shooting," according to the report.

The witness said Kilgore's wife brought her over to the 24-year-old victim's camper and found her injured, according to the report. Kilgore fled the scene and the victim was taken to AUMC for treatment.

Anyone with information about Kilgore should contact Inv. Robert Ferraro at 706-821-1464, or any on-duty investigator at 706-821-1020 or 706-821-1080.
