AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — SpeakUpSis, a local community-focused business, is empowering people people to embrace and share their personal stories. Founded by Angel Charmaine Wright, her own journey through adversity, including childhood trauma, marital challenges, and personal struggles, inspired her to create the platform. “We need a space where we can actually open up our mouths and speak up,” she said. “I believe that it is these authentic conversations just like we’re having.”

Within its short time, she has launched the SpeakUpSis magazine, podcast, and talk show.
She recently created the Empowerment Center to offer workshops on business startup, creative arts, and more. “We have all been in the social media space for a while, especially since the pandemic,” she recalled. “And people are online and they’re doing business online. And the Empowerment Center is designed to help bring people back into the land of the living.”

The center features spaces like the cozy SpeakUpSis Bookshelf and the lively Connection Hub, designed to inspire creativity and productivity. It’s intentionally designed for small, intimate gatherings. “If you’re someone who has dealt with bullying or if you’re someone who deals with social anxiety, being able to come into a more intimate space that is controlled and where you know who you’re talking to and everybody’s included, it’s a lot easier to come out of that shell.” Wright shared.

Angel is also passionate about addressing menstrual hygiene for school-age girls, providing dignity kits to help them manage their periods with confidence at school. A menstrual hygiene dignity kit giveaway is on Saturday, July 20th at the Empowerment Center on 2275 Wrightsboro Rd, Augusta. “We want to help end that stigma and make sure that every girl has pads, Wright shared. “So, if you just bring her on out, she can pick up a little dignity kit, keep it in her locker, and she doesn’t have to be ashamed to menstruate at school. So we will be having that at the popup as well.”

Also, the SpeakUpSis Awards gala is gearing up for its second annual event, set for September 15th at 5:00 p.m. The event will take place at Julian Smith Casino at 2200 Broad Street, Augusta. The ceremony & dinner is at 5 p.m. The reception is at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at Bit.ly/SpeakUpSisAwards.

For those interested in getting involved or attending, more information can be found on their website, SpeakUpSis.com , or through their social media channels at SpeakUpSis.
