The Richmond County Coroner's Office is investigating a "suspicious death" after a body was found Tuesday in a homeless camp.

The coroner's office responded to a wooded area on the 200 block of Davis Road for a death, according to a news release.

A male body was found in a homeless camp and pronounced dead at the scene just before 10:30 a.m., according to the release. The deceased had been there for several days.

"Due to the condition of the body an autopsy has been scheduled," according to the coroner's office. "The GBI will also take steps for making a positive ID."

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is investigating, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.
