Toran, who was last seen on Wednesday, had been reported missing after her phone was traced to Atlanta. Over the weekend, her family anxiously monitored news reports about a body found in Decatur, hoping for a different outcome.
Their worst fears were confirmed on Monday afternoon when the body was identified as Toran’s.
WRDW reports that authorities are seeking Toran’s boyfriend, Biarritz “Danate” Martin, for questioning. Police in Decatur responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Kroger shopping center on Wesley Chapel Road around 9:42 a.m. on Sunday.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a deceased woman, later identified as Toran. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office noted that Toran was last seen near Diamond Lakes Park.
After being asked to leave, Martin returned two hours later to pick up Toran. Since then, her family received text messages that seemed uncharacteristic of her.
Deputies investigating the case spoke with Martin’s roommates, who confirmed that Martin was home on Tuesday night but without Toran. Despite multiple attempts to contact him, deputies only received a call back in which Martin behaved erratically before disconnecting.
Toran’s family members actively searched for her on Friday, expressing deep concern. Her brother, Travoun West, said, “I’m really lost. I don’t know what to do for real.”
Toran was last seen in a white 2004 Ford F-250 with Georgia license plate RJW1158.
Authorities have released a photo of Martin, described as 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 160 pounds, and urge anyone with information to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1020 or 706-821-1080.
