A 57-year-old man from Aurora, Jorge Ramirez-Flores, drowned in the South Platte River on July 4, according to a social media post from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Ramirez-Flores was celebrating the holiday with family at the river near Deckers. He was walking on the rocks at the river when he lost his balance and fell into the water. A family member tried to grab him but could not because of the fast-moving current.

Ramirez-Flores floated about two miles downstream to the Gaskill Bridge. Some unidentified citizens pulled him out of the water, but he was unresponsive. They attempted resuscitation until North Fork Fire arrived and took over, but were sadly unsuccessful.

Condolences go out to those impacted by this death.
