DENVER ( KDVR ) — Twenty people were displaced after a fire engulfed an Aurora three-plex building.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, the Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire near 700 North Fraser St. The area is in the Chambers Heights neighborhood.

When fire crews arrived, they encountered a heavy fire burning a two-story, three-plex building. Fire crews quickly got to work containing the blaze and ensured the safety of everyone, including pets, who were inside the building.

Aurora Fire said one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Fire crews said they encountered intense heat and utilized “four attack hose lines” to extinguish the flames. However, all three units sustained serious damage, and the home is no longer inhabitable.

In total, 14 adults and six children were displaced due to the extensive damage, according to Aurora Fire. The Red Cross will provide support for the families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
