Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle's contract: Where his pay ranks in SEC

New Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has agreed to a lucrative and lengthy deal as he attempts to lead the Longhorns back to the College World Series.

The details of a proposed seven-year contract for Schlossnagle were released Friday. Texas will ask the UT System Board of Regents to formally approve Schlossnagle's contract at its meeting next week.

During each of the first two years of his new deal, Schlossnagle would make $1 million. Schlossnagle's annual salary would drastically increase to $2.68 million in the third year.

While coaching Texas A&M last season , Schlossnagle made $1.35 million. Since he left the Aggies for an in-state school, his buyout was twice that amount.

Excluding a bonus that was paid by an equipment provider, Schlossnagle's salary at Texas A&M ranked seventh among Southeastern Conference coaches in 2024, according to a list compiled by The Tennessean's Aria Gerson . Vanderbilt's Tim Corbin topped that list at nearly $2 million, followed by Florida's Kevin O'Sullivan ($1.76 million), LSU's Jay Johnson ($1.65 million) and Ole Miss' Mike Bianco ($1.63 million). Former UT coach David Pierce's salary of $1.2 million would have ranked 10th had Texas been in the SEC last season.

With Schlossnagle, Texas is placing a large bet on a man who has compiled a 946-455 record over 23 years as a head coach. Schlossnagle, 54, led TCU and Texas A&M to seven appearances at the College World Series, and his 2024 Texas A&M team fell one win short of a national championship.

"It's also extremely important that we uphold the rich traditions of this great institution. We want leaders of character and integrity who know how to win in a way that makes Longhorn Nation proud," UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife said at Schlossnagle's introductory press conference June 26 . "His record speaks for itself, but more importantly, his character and integrity and the manner in which he runs a first-class program is second to none."

Through an open records request, the American-Statesman previously confirmed that associate head coach Nolan Cain and assistant coach Max Weiner each agreed to work at Texas for base salaries of $400,000. Troy Tulowitzki, who will be the team's hitting instructor and third assistant coach, will make $200,000.
