Texas football misses on 5-star OT Michael Fasusi, eyes big recruiting weekend

Texas football hit another bump on the recruiting trail Wednesday when five-star offensive lineman Michael Fasusi picked Oklahoma over the Longhorns.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound tackle from Lewisville High School in the Dallas area chose the Sooners over the Longhorns, Texas A&M, Florida and Oregon. Fasusi is the top-rated offensive lineman in Texas for the class of 2025, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

While Texas still ranks 14th in 247Sports' recruiting rankings for the class of 2025, coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have lost some high-profile recruiting battles this summer. Five-star receiver Dakorien Moore pledged to Oregon , four-star defensive lineman Brandon Bown decommitted from the Longhorns and flipped to LSU, and five-star linebacker Riley Pettijohn picked Ohio State.

Earlier this week, four-star defensive back Kade Phillips of Missouri City, Texas, decommitted from Texas and flipped to LSU.

So far, receiver Kaliq Lockett of Garland is the only five-star pledge in Texas' 2025 class.

But Sarkisian and his staff have earned their reputations as strong closers in the recruiting cycle, and they'll have a chance to reel in some top prospects in the coming weeks. Georgia offensive tackle Nick Brooks, a four-star prospect, has listed Texas as a finalist alonngside Georgia and USC, and he plans to announce his commitment on Friday. Brooks' decision is especially crucial after the loss of Fasusi, since the Longhorns don't have any true offensive tackles among their 16 pledges for the class of 2025. (John Mills of California is listed as a tackle but will likely play guard at the next level.)

Texas is also in the chase for five-star Galveston Ball athlete Jonah Williams, five-star athlete Michael Terry III of Alamo Heights in San Anonio and three-star cornerback Aidan Anding of Ruston, Louisiana. Both Williams and Anding are expected to announce their decision this weekend.
