    In Your Community: Duplicate Bridge

    By Daily Herald,

    2024-05-31

Duplicate Bridge is played twice weekly in Austin at the Mower County Senior Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. both days.

All bridge players are welcomed to come join. It’s just $2 to play on Tuesday and $3 to play on Wednesday.

Nine teams played on Tuesday, winners were

    • First place, Paul Hanson and Larry Crowe

    • Second place, Jim Fisher and Dave Ring

    • Third place, Lorraine Quinlivan and Barb Rofshus

    • Fourth place, Theresa Baldus and Joyce Crowe

    • Fifth place, Barb and Orrin Roisen

Six full tables played on Wednesday.

    • First place, Gail Schmidt and Dave Ring

    • Second place, Norm Blazer and Mike Leidal

    • Third place, Vandy Newman and Ron Peters

    • Fourth place, Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher

    • Fifth place, Tom Flaherty and Stan Schultz

    • Sixth place, John Leisen and Rick Stroup

As promised last week, our first printed runners up from Albert Lea, Barb Rofshus and Paul Hanson, were only 1/2 point off sixth place score.

Tip taken from April 2024 ACBL by master point player Michael Berkowitz for newer players: “As a defendant, if you aren’t in a rush to take your tricks, you may be able to erode declarer’s strength until it collapses.” The point is pay attention.
