AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Fire crews spent much of Wednesday afternoon working to get a wind-fueled fire under control in south Austin.

Fire officials said multiple 911 callers reported seeing fire in the 2900 block of South Interstate 35, just north of Woodward Street, just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found a three-story building that had been under renovations that was fully involved. That building, described as a wooden structure, was partially boarded up, officials said, and suffered a partial collapse due to the fire.

Within minutes, a second and then third alarm was called out to help fight the blaze and contain the fire to the initial scene. Due to windy conditions, firefighters were forced to take a defensive posture.

Despite firefighters' efforts, the blaze spread to the Casulo Hotel, with firefighters discovering active fire between the hotel's third floor and the roof. Crews at that point called out a fourth alarm, just before 3 p.m.

Firefighters were also watching nearby apartment complexes to keep the fire from spreading to any additional properties, given the windy conditions. Embers were found in gutters, officials said.

More than 130 AFD firefighters helped fight the blaze, with approximately 36 units on the scene. Crews were finally able to bring the fire under control around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.

One firefighter suffered injuries during the incident, officials said. No other injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
