AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin's newly-selected city manager, T.C. Broadnax, is set to make a base salary of more than $470,000 a year, according to city documents released Thursday.

City Council members made the appointment official Thursday, along with authorizing the mayor to execute an employment agreement.

According to the agreement, which was released Thursday morning , Broadnax will take over effective May 6, and will be paid a base salary of $470,017.60, with annual adjustments that fall in line with adjustments for other city employees that are not covered by a labor agreement.

Broadnax, who is currently serving as Dallas' city manager, had previously said he planned to remain in that post until his resignation became effective on June 3. According to Dallas-area media reports, Broadnax may be entitled to a year's worth of severance pay from Dallas as a part of his agreement to resign his post. That severance payment - which could be more than $423,000 - is reportedly due if Broadnax were asked to resign directly or indirectly at the suggestion of a majority of city council members.

According to the agreement, Broadnax is also slated to receive a cell phone allowance of more than $1,800 a year, a $7,000 annual "executive allowance", an allowance of $5,000 per month for 6 months for temporary housing, and payment of moving costs pursuant to City policy.

Former city manager Spencer Cronk, prior to his firing by City Council in early 2023, had just been given a raise in December 2022 to a base salary of $388,190.40. Interim city manager Jesus Garza is currently being paid a base salary of approximately $350,000.

Broadnax would be the city's second highest-paid employee under the agreement; Austin Energy's general manager, Robert Kahn, makes a base salary of $475,009.
