AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An investigation is underway Wednesday after a suspect was shot and killed by officers in southwest Austin.

According to authorities, members of the U.S. Marshals' Lone Star Fugitive Task Force were attempting to serve a warrant near the 6600 block of West William Cannon Drive near Vega Avenue, just northeast of the Y in Oak Hill before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Reports indicate that when officers attempted to serve that warrant, the suspect drove off from the scene in a blue Honda. Later, the suspect exited his vehicle and pulled a weapon, prompting officers to open fire.

According to Austin Police, the Texas Rangers will be leading the investigation into the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting weren't immediately clear, or whether APD officers were involved in the shooting.

Authorities were asking everyone to avoid the area due to ongoing closures.
