'Major collision' snarls traffic on Interstate 35 just south of downtown Friday morning

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- First responders were on the scene of a "major collision" involving a semi truck on the edge of downtown Austin Friday morning.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the crash happened just before 11 a.m. in the 1000 block of South IH-35, in the northbound lanes over Lady Bird Lake.

Medics were reporting a total of 13 people involved in the crash, with 9 patients needing transport to nearby hospitals.

Multiple agencies, including ATCEMS and Austin Fire, were on the scene.

EMS said drivers should expect major delays in the area.
