AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- As the search for Austin's next permanent police chief continues, we now know one name that won't be in the applicant pool - current interim police chief Robin Henderson.

According to a city memo released Friday from city manager T.C. Broadnax, Henderson will stay with the department for a period of time to assist with the transition once a new chief in hired, then retire after nearly 27 years with the city.

"Please know it is time for me to take a step back, enjoy time with my family and see what the next chapter in life has in store for me," said Henderson.

Henderson has served in the interim role since former police chief Joseph Chacon retired last year.

Applications for the police chief position are being accepted through Monday; panel interviews will begin with a finalist expected to be selected later this year.
