Hometown hero Tacodeli, the 25-year-old casual taco chain, is rapidly expanding across the state.

Why it matters: As the city sees its fair share of restaurant closures , Tacodeli stands out as a longtime local spot that continues to thrive.

Driving the news: Tacodeli, founded by Robert Espinosa in 1999, will open its ninth Austin location next month on South Lamar, its first Fort Worth location this fall and a third Houston location in early 2025.

    • The taqueria now has 14 locations across the state in Austin, Dallas, Plano and Houston.

What they're saying: "We're really ramping up expansion in our 25th year," Espinosa told Axios, adding that in addition to new stores, the company has been able to expand operations and marketing teams across the state.

    • "We're just getting started on expansion and thrilled to continue growing in new markets," Espinosa said.

Zoom in: The new South Lamar location will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and feature expanded cocktail offerings, including an exclusive Doña Rita, a spicy margarita made with Tacodeli's Salsa Doña, which has a cult following.

    • "We're joining some spectacular restaurants and retailers that have made that part of Austin home for many years. The neighborhoods that surround our new location are well-established, awesome communities that we look forward to serving."

Between the lines: Tacodeli has expanded beyond its physical stores in recent years to grow its Texas footprint.

    • H-E-B began carrying their salsas and dips in nearly 290 stores earlier this year.
    • The taco chain opened a location at the Austin airport in 2018.
    • Plus, Tacodeli has long partnered with coffee shops to offer pre-made versions of their breakfast tacos. Coffee shops in Houston, Dallas and Plano now offer their ready-made tacos.

What's next: Expect a grand opening party for the South Lamar location on July 17 with $5 margaritas and giveaways.

💭 Our thought bubble: Tacodeli continues to be a great spot for an easy, affordable meal.

    • Try the sirloin, egg and cheese ($4.75) or the Jess Special ($4.25) — migas, cheese and avocado — tacos for breakfast.
    • The Frontera Fundido packs a punch, with creamy jack cheese glaze over chicken, sirloin, shrimp or vegetables. And, of course, don't skip a side of queso and chips.

What to watch: How their delicious Salsa Doña will taste when translated to margarita form.
