Paul Finebaum Reveals SEC Championship Game Prediction

In 2023, Texas had a remarkable year. The Longhorns won the Big 12 for the first time since 2009 and made it to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history. As the Longhorns transition to the SEC, Texas is considered one of the top contenders in the conference.

The Football Power Index from ESPN measures a team's strength and is designed to be the best predictor of its performance for the remainder of the season. The FPI currently ranks the Georgia Bulldogs and Texas as the top two teams in the SEC. It also gives both the best chances of making the SEC Championship Game.

On "The Paul Finebaum Show ," Finebaum revealed he agrees with the FPI and thinks the Bulldogs and Longhorns will play for the conference championship. However, he also believes Alabama will make the College Football Playoff.

"As far as right now in the SEC game, I would go with everyone else saying Georgia and Texas," Finebaum said. "I think Alabama will make the (playoff) field, though."

The Longhorns and Bulldogs play each other in the regular season, which could make it tough for both to advance to the conference championship. The losing team would likely have to win all of its remaining games to have a chance.

According to Sports Illustrated , the Longhorns' schedule might not be too challenging. Texas has the 14th-ranked schedule in the SEC. However, it could be challenging for the Bulldogs, who have the sixth-ranked schedule. Many people believe Georgia is the top team in the country. The FPI agrees. Therefore, if any team can make a mistake and recover, the Bulldogs would be among the top choices.
