Sweeney is a member of the scout team who has not played in his Texas career. He is originally from Dallas (Texas) Highland Park.
No. 63 – Rick McBroom, JR
McBroom is a member of the scout team, often the center, who has not played in his Texas career. He is originally from Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints Episcopal.
Robertson was part of the seven-man 2022 offensive line class and was the obvious center take of the group, though that’s not a position he played while on an Austin (Texas) Westlake line with a number of Division I prospects. He played some during the 2022 season, making four appearances. He then appeared in 10 games in 2023, often relieving Jake Majors once Texas had put the game away or contributing on special teams.
His longest stretch of playing time came against Oklahoma when Majors missed time due to injury. While Robertson wasn’t a sieve by any means, the Longhorns struggled to run the football at times with four opportunities at the goal line standing out. Those mishaps don’t fall solely only on the shoulders of Robertson by any stretch of the imagination as other players made more glaring mistakes. But there were more plays than just the four on the goal line. All that being said, Quinn Ewers doesn’t have his scintillating second half in the Cotton Bowl without Robertson offering decent protection.
Robertson might not see much conventional down playing time this season in games of consequence, but he is fighting to remain the player who Kyle Flood calls upon should anything happen to Majors.
No. 61 – Not issued
No. 61 was last worn in 2023 by Sawyer Goram-Welch , who transferred to Coastal Carolina.
No. 60 – Retired for Tommy Nobis
A player who was instrumental not just in Texas’ 1963 national championship but also the rise of the Longhorns under Darrell Royal in the 1960s, Nobis was a dominant two-way player who earned All-Southwest Conference and All-American honors in 1964 and 1965. He was also the 1965 Outland Trophy winner, an award given annually to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman. He also was named the winner of the Maxwell Award, given to the nation’s best player.
Nobis was drafted No. 1 overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1966 NFL draft and No. 5 overall by the Houston Oilers in the same year’s AFL draft. He signed with Atlanta, and remained with the Falcons for 11 seasons. He was named a first-team All-Pro in 1967 and a second-team All-Pro in 1968. His No. 60 is retired both by the Longhorns and the Falcons, and he’s enshrined in the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
