AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead on a Rainey Street trail Friday evening, APD said.

Police said a man was found with “blunt force trauma” to his body near a trail at Rainey and Cummings Street.

The man’s death is not being investigated as a homicide, APD Officer Austin Zarling said during a media briefing Friday night. Police said the investigation by homicide detectives is ongoing.

Police responded to a check welfare call at the trail around 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a body. Officers found a man with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., APD said.

Police, Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department responded to the call. Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public.
