Amid intense coverage of his campaign's fate, President Biden is scheduled to visit Austin next week.

Why it matters: By the time Biden visits Austin, he may very well have pulled out of the race — or he may have doubled down in his re-election effort.

Driving the news: Biden will deliver the keynote Monday at the LBJ Presidential Library's commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, signed into law by President Johnson in July 1964.

What they're saying: "It is fitting that he returns to the library to mark this milestone as our 46th president whose administration is committed to pursuing a 'comprehensive approach to advancing racial equity for all,'" Mark K. Updegrove, president and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, said in a statement.

The irony: Johnson, of course, famously didn't seek re-election.

Zoom out: Biden hasn't flown across the country as much as the last two presidents who used the trappings of the office — including Air Force One — to motivate supporters in battleground states and win re-election, a review by Axios found.

The intrigue: Biden is facing escalating questions from fellow Democrats on whether he has the stamina and acuity to continue in office after a debate performance that focused attention on the limitations of the nation's oldest-ever president.
