Nick Saban Throws Shade At Texas During SEC Media Days

Some might say the Texas Longhorns were a big fish in a small pond during their time in the Big 12 conference.

Now that UT (and Oklahoma) is in arguably the best conference in college football, the SEC, many analysts, including former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, believe the team is in for a rude awakening with how it’s used to things typically operating.

“What kind of tickles me is all these people asking questions about how Texas always ran the conference they were in,” Saban said during an appearance on “SEC Now” on Monday. “They’re not going to run the SEC. There’s a whole lot of arrogant people in a lot of places in the SEC. Forget all about that. They’ll be a good team and a great program and [Steve Sarkisian] will do a great job, but that’s not going to be a problem.”

Saban’s remarks appear to be about more than just the Longhorns’ win-loss record.

When UT was part of the Big 12, many felt the conference not only catered to the school’s wishes but they also believed that Texas was counted on to be an agenda-setter for the conference as well.

Because of a perceived higher administrative influence, there was often tension between Texas and many of the other Big 12 schools. Saban’s statement seems to hint at UT will no longer have any politicking power.
