Georgia Bulldogs heavy favorite over Texas Longhorns to win SEC championship

The Georgia Bulldogs are heavy favorites by the media to win the Southeastern Conference title this season.

The Bulldogs received 165 votes to win the SEC championship among reporters covering the league at SEC Media Days this week.

The Texas Longhorns came in second with a shocking 27 votes.

Alabama received just 12 votes and finished third while Ole Miss snagged fourth place with four votes.

Fans shouldn't get too excited about these votes, however, considering just nine times since 1992 has the media correctly picked the winner of the SEC championship game.

Kirby Smart Has Turned Georgia Football Into a Beast

Head coach Kirby Smart, who once worked under Nick Saban's staff at Alabama, has turned the Georgia football program into the new college football dynasty. Some would even consider the Bulldogs the new Alabama .

Over the last eight seasons, Smart has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back college football championship wins, seven straight New Year's Six Bowls, two SEC championships, and six SEC Eastern Division titles for an overall 94-16 record in 110 games. Additionally, Georgia has not lost more than two games in a season since 2018.

Smart has also produced three straight top recruiting classes and 63 NFL draft picks -- the most of any coach in college football history.

The hope is that Georgia will only continue to dominate in 2024, which shouldn't be hard to do given early Heisman Trophy candidate Carson Beck will be leading the Dawgs again this fall with a stacked roster.

The road to the title game all starts on Aug. 31 in Atlanta when the Bulldogs take on the Clemson Tiger s to kick off the 2024 season.
