Old East Austin hangout Cisco's Restaurant, Bakery and Bar received a $50,000 grant from the National Trust of Historic Preservation and American Express.

Why it matters: Austin has seen its fair share of longtime staples close in recent years, and the "Back Historic Small Restaurants" program aims to help preserve "culturally significant" restaurants like Cisco's.

State of play: Fifty small restaurants across the country each received a $50,000 grant this year, including three in Texas.

    • The program, in its fourth year, has awarded funding to a total of 125 restaurants, per a press release .
    • Doshi House and Christie's Seafood Restaurant in Houston also received funding through the program this year.

Zoom in: Grant recipients also will receive a year of complimentary access to Resy OS restaurant management software to help streamline their costs.

What they're saying: "We are extremely honored to have been chosen," Cisco's wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. "We're 74 years into this journey and we can't thank our customers and fans enough for keeping the history alive."

What to order: The migas plate ($13) and huevos rancheros plate ($12) are classics.
