College football programs always want to stockpile as much top level talent as humanly possible. That's true even when the wealth of talent creates potential headaches when it comes to playing time.

As the Texas Longhorns embarked on 2024 preseason practices, head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked about how he can find enough offensive touches for all his high-level skill position players. His response included quite the colorful analogy:

"I feel like I’m crying from a yacht right now," Sarkisian told Texas media members, including from Austin NBC affiliate KXAN , after the team's first practice. "That’s a good problem. Do we have too many good players? What are we saying? That’s the idea of trying to recruit well, recruiting players with high character that work really hard. I hope they make it really difficult on us."

Texas fans would certainly concur with that assessment, which followed the team's first workouts with a new wide receiving corps that immediately turned heads. Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond, Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden and Houston transfer Matthew Golden were all noted as potential key contributors in the offseason, while returning superstar prospect Johntay Cook and incoming freshman Ryan Wingo have also been considered potential gamechangers.

While which player gets the most touches may often be predicated by specifics of the week's game plan, it's clear that Sarkisian is comfortable feeding the ball to whichever hot hand emerges, regardless of preseason hype and accolades. That's true in all three phases of the game, as he detailed about the Longhorns' special teams plans.

"We’re trying to groom them all and then figure out who we feel most confident in and reliable in what we’re asking to do in that gameplan," Sarkisian said .
