Texas Longhorns fall camp will highlight new and explosive wide receiver room

The Texas Longhorns are coming off a College Football Playoff berth last season that featured a strong defense and explosive playmakers. For Longhorns fans, this offense will look pretty different this year after three of their best weapons went to the NFL in wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell , along with running back Jonathan Brooks.

Fortunately, Texas isn't slated to see much, if any, of a drop off at the position, despite the fact that the three starting wide receivers are all transfers. Let's get to know the newest playmakers that will be catching passes from returning quarterback Quinn Ewers .

Texas welcomes speedster Isaiah Bond from Alabama

After losing burner Worthy, the Texas Longhorns look to replace him by bringing in Isaiah Bond from Alabama via the transfer portal. Bond has burning speed and agility in and out of his breaks, and dropped only two targets last year. According to PFF, Bond's 92% open target rate last season was in the 99th percentile for all FBS receivers.

Bond figures to slot in as the top receiver in the Texas offense. He'll take the top off opposing defenses and has the afterburners to turn any catch into a potential touchdown. He's a huge name to watch this season, and Bond could turn that speed into a 2025 1st round draft selection .

Silas Bolden is drawing high praise early from his coaches

The second of three transfer wide receivers, Texas brought in Silas Bolden from Oregon State University. Bolden is small, there's no denying that – he stands at only 5'8" 160 lbs listed – but what he lacks in size, he makes up for with athleticism, explosiveness, and grit.

“I think he’s fearless first of all,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Wednesday. “A lot of those guys that aren’t the biggest players, I think of like a Steve Smith who was a fearless receiver at Utah and in the NFL. Silas is fearless.”

"He’s not afraid to do any of the dirty work,” Sarkisian continued. “He’ll run all the route tree. He plays tough. He plays hard, but he also uses his strengths to his ability. He’s cat quick. He’s fast in the open field. He trusts his speed. He’s elusive, but at the end of the day he doesn’t shy away from contact.”

If a player is going to be so undersized, fearlessness is going to be crucial. Bolden was a blur on the field for the Beavers, both as a receiver and on special teams. He's set to continue his contributions this year for Texas.

Matthew Golden continues the trend of speedster wide receivers

We know Texas had burners last season with Worthy and Mitchell. This year will be no different. Opposite of Bond, Texas will roll out Matthew Golden, a University of Houston transfer. It's going to be a track meet.

Just look how silky he is out of that break. Golden is going to bring more of that track speed to the field, both as a receiver and as a kick returner. Last year at Houston, he averaged 35.7 yards per kick return, taking two back for touchdowns on only nine kick return tries.

Bond, Bolden, and Golden will make up one of the fastest and most explosive wide receiver groups in the entire country and Texas looks to get over the hump and get back to a National Championship for the first time since 2005.
