The conversation about who will be the final team standing at the conclusion of the 2024 season is already running rampant, but one team's case may have taken a major hit.

The newly named SEC team, the Texas Longhorns, have already been bitten by the injury bug during Tuesday's practice, as reports have confirmed that running back CJ Baxter went down with a knee injury. According to Anward Richardson of Orangebloods , Baxter is set to undergo an MRI of his knee as the severity of the injury has not yet been revealed.

For Baxter, the former five-star's injury comes after he played in 12 games with six starts in 2023. The Florida native earned second-team freshman All-America honors by The Athletic, freshman All-American honorable mention by College Football Network and honorable mention All-Big 12 honors, along with also being named honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year. His first season in Austin saw him rush 138 times for 659 yards and five touchdowns while also adding 24 catches for 156 yards.

With Baxter possibly missing some time, the Longhorns will now have to turn to his running mate Jaydon Blue, who rushed for nearly 400 yards and three scores last season. Both Baxter and Blue were named to the Doak Walker Award watch list.
