A massive 2025 recruit came off the board on Wednesday, seeing Sachse (Texas) High School star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett commit to the University of Texas . He selected the in-state Longhorns over finalists Alabama , LSU , Texas A&M, and Florida State.

In total, the Texas native has heard from some of the best programs in all of college football. Aside from his finalists, Lockett also holds offers from Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida, USC, Miami, Nebraska, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisville, South Carolina, Texas Tech, TCU, Syracuse, Utah, Arizona State, Kansas State and SMU among others.

Lockett is considered one of the very best wide receivers in the 2025 recruiting class. He is a consensus top 100 overall player by every major recruiting platform, ranking highest by 247Sports. On their ranking, Lockett is considered a five-star, currently pegged as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 wide receiver in the class.

On3 and ESPN have Lockett ranked similarly as well, coming in at No. 21 and No. 23 overall respectively. Each of those platforms also have him ranked as a top six player in the state of Texas, a state that produces high level talent as well as anyone.

The 6-2, 175-pound pass catcher was nearly unstoppable for Sachse as a junior. In 11 games, Lockett hauled in 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. That’s an average of 22 yards per catch, demonstrating the big play ability that Lockett possesses.

This commitment was huge for the Longhorns for a variety of reasons. Keeping a top talent from the state is obviously important. Texas pulls from a pool of a high volume of talent. Keeping Lockett at home was huge for that reason. It also doesn't hurt to beat out schools like Alabama and LSU for a talented pass catcher.

Lockett is also the first wide receiver that Texas has landed in the 2025 recruiting class. Continuing their string of success with pass catchers recently is important, adding to the momentum guys like Xavier Worthy, AD Mitchell, and now Isaiah Bond have created. This also gives 2025 quarterback KJ Lacey a big addition to the future of the passing attack.

Since Steve Sarkisian took over at Texas, the fortunes of the offense changed quickly. We got a peek into where the entire team is trending after the 2023 season as well. Lockett is another huge addition and momentum builder for the program.
