A New Jersey girls’ Little League team lost the state championship final last week, after their game was suspended by lightning and officials refused to let the players complete the final innings the following day as planned. The call left the kids and others questioning the fairness of the decision. The Toms River Little League Majors 12-year-old softball team played their final game against Hanover on Wednesday, but play was suspended before the start of the sixth inning due to the storm. Tournament officials initially said the game would be played the following day, but Toms River’s coach Brad Bossow got an...

TAPinto Rahway Stops by Girls Summer Basketball Practice
RAHWAY, NJ — Heading out to take care of a few things the other day, TAPinto Rahway decided to pay a visit to the Rahway High School (RHS) girls varsity basketball team. Though the season doesn't take place until the winter, Head Coach Jorge Gutierrez told us that the team would be in the high school gymnasium running through one of its summer practices. So we thought it was a good time, about midway into the summer, to stop by, snap a few photos, and see what the girls were up to. The varsity team is expecting five...

Bon chance, Paris — New York City should never host the Olympics
When the Olympic Games kick off Friday, I’ll be overcome by a powerful wave of emotions. I’ll be filled with pride for our 592 Team USA athletes, including Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky, who are brilliantly representing our country in Paris, France. I’ll be giddy about obsessing over weird sports such as dressage and synchronized swimming that only get their moment in the sun every four years. Most of all though, I will heave a huge sigh of relief. Because the Olympics are, yet again, not taking place here in New York City. No FOMO for me! What the chipper, wall-to-wall TV coverage does not...

Notably, he set the National Independent High School Record in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:50.65, surpassing...

Big Ten primer — Rutgers’ greatest football moment
USC is joining the Big Ten and helping to create an 18-school superconference with the other West Coast schools leaving the Pac-12. The Trojans will participate in Big Ten media days next week in Indianapolis. The newness of their surroundings and the freshness of their situation will become apparent when they join a media extravaganza with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and other schools from the Midwest. As we get to know USC’s new Big Ten neighbors, let’s consider the greatest football moment in the history of Rutgers University. It’s an old memory, literally the oldest college football memory we have. College...
