Vehicle collides with a tree, leaves one deceased in Derry Township
DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — Derry Township Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in Derry Township this morning. According to Derry Township Police, on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 3:28 a.m., the department was dispatched to the 800 block of East Governor Road for a single-vehicle crash.
PSP REPORTS: VEHICLE ACCIDENT, THEFT OF TOOLS
State police have released information on a vehicle crash that happened on July 16th in Center Township. Police say 74-year-old Bruce Heise of Blairsville was driving south on Route 119 near the intersection with Beech Street, and red the red light, colliding with a van driven by 70-year-old Cynthia Hatcher of Indiana as it was pulling out into the intersection from Beech Street as that light had turned green. Hatcher was not hurt, but Heise had suspected minor injuries and was taken to IRMC for treatment.
Coroner probes man's death in Loyalhanna
A Loyalhanna Township man was found dead Saturday afternoon next to his bicycle near the Loyalhanna Lake, the Westmoreland County Coroner said. The victim, John R. Schoch, 65, of Loyalhanna Township, was found around 5 p.m. by his bicycle in a gravel area near 777 Bush Rd., the coroner said.

1 injured after vehicle crashes into house in Unity Township
A vehicle smashed into a house in Unity Township on Saturday. Westmoreland County dispatchers say emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Bethel Church Road at 2:19 p.m. Youngstown volunteer firefighters say one person from inside the car was taken to a local hospital. That person was able to get out of the vehicle on their own power.
Suspect rips business off for $13,000
Selinsgrove, Pa. — An unknown suspect used a credit card with insufficient funds to pay for $13,000 of building products, police say. Around June 26, the suspect called Kohl Building Products in Penn Township and ordered building products including roof shingles, according to Trp. Derek Gill of state police at Selinsgrove. The sales representative took the order over the phone along with a credit card number provided by the suspect. The suspect then promptly went to the business to pick up the products. A short time later, representatives at the business found that the credit card transaction was denied for insufficient funds. Anyone with information may contact PSP Selinsgrove at 570-374-8145.
Jeannette officers file suit seeking overtime payments for time spent feeding, caring for police dogs
Jeannette’s two police dog handlers claim in a federal lawsuit that the city violated labor laws by not paying them an overtime rate for time spent caring for their canines. Sgt. Jim Phillips and Officer Matthew Painter said in the filing that they spend at least 30 to 60 minutes, often more, of uncompensated time daily taking care of the animals. Painter has a Dutch shepherd named Kilo and Phillips works with a Belgian malinois named Diesel.

PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on I-76 Eastbound in Penn Township this morning. Pennsylvania State Police say they were dispatched to mile marker 268.8 on I-76 at around 4:24 a.m. this morning, where they encountered a two-vehicle crash scene on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Police say the two vehicles involved were a car and a tractor-trailer.
