    Out on Film Festival releases 2024 lineup

    Atlanta's Out on Film Festival returns later this month with a 11-day celebration of LGBTQ+ filmmakers and the communities' stories about love, legal battles and life.

    Driving the news: This year's 37th annual festival runs Sept. 26 through Oct. 6, and audiences will be treated to 40 films and 111 short films.


    Zoom in: " Young Hearts ," writer and director Anthony Schatteman's story about a 14-year-old boy who falls in love with his neighbor, kicks off opening night festivities.

    • Closing out the festival will be "High Tide" by Marco Calvani, which follows an undocumented Brazilian immigrant who looks forward to his American lover's return to Provincetown, according to a Variety film review .

    What they're saying: Film Director Jim Farmer said this year's festival celebrates movies from Atlanta and across the world. He also said that the works of actresses Jodie Foster and Nava Mau and actor Elliot Page are included in this year's lineup.

    Flashback: Out on Film began in 1987 and later became part of the Atlanta Film Festival, according to its website .

    • The nonprofit festival began operating as an independent entity in 2008 and in 2020 became one of two Oscar-qualifying LGBTQ film festivals in the country.
