Tell me, Antiques Roadshow, is this Grant Wood real?

"Antiques Roadshow" is at Living History Farms today and I'm taking what is allegedly an original Grant Wood painting for valuation.

Catch up fast: I bought the painting on eBay for $6,100 in early 2021 as a congrats gift to myself for landing my gig at Axios Des Moines.

    • It hangs in my office, and I gaze at it for creative inspiration.

Zoom in: It's a small, untitled landscape that local appraiser Marie Louise Kane tells me may have been painted in France around 1920.

    • That was the year Wood — who grew up in Cedar Rapids and would have been around 29 at the time — first realized his long-held dream of a trip to Europe, per Kane.
    • The artist's signature is on the left hand bottom corner of the painting and Kane estimated its value for insurance purposes at $13,000.

The fine print: I don't know the provenance of the painting beyond the New York seller.

    • Kane also thinks the painting is the real deal, but she could be wrong.

State of play: Today's appraisals in Urbandale will produce three, one-hour long episodes for the series' 29th season next year, Demee Gambulos, a spokesperson for the show, tells Axios.

    • Appraisal tickets are distributed, and people without them can't get in.

What we're watching: If you've got tickets, we're interested to learn what you're taking.

    • Send us a pic — or say hello if you see me at LHF!
    • We'll have a follow up story tomorrow.
