Monday Munchies: Nicaraguan food in Rogers

I must alert you that we have a restaurant dedicated to serving Nicaraguan cuisine — and it does not disappoint.

The scene: Restaurant & Antojitos Nica is in an unassuming strip mall about a mile east of Interstate 49, where you'll start off with some crispy, fried plantain strips while you peruse the menu.

What to try: The jalapeno chicken ($16.50) topped with onions and served with rice, beans, salad and maduros (sweet, fried plantains) is a safe bet. The chicken was tender with a little spice, and the maduros are so naturally sweet, they're almost a dessert.

    • Or go for a full-on fried snapper ($27.50) served with rice, beans, salad and tostones. Tostones are yet another version of fried plantains, so you'll inevitably sample quite the range here.

By the numbers: I was impressed with the amount of food for the price. My fellow diner and I easily could have split the jalapeno chicken and an appetizer and gotten out for around $30.

Stop by: 11am-9pm, Thursday-Tuesday, 3704 W. Walnut St. in Rogers.
