What to know about Eagles preseason

It's hard to get hyped about preseason football — unless you live in Philadelphia.

The big picture: We're still a month away from regular season , but Eagles fans can get their first glimpse of the team during tonight's preseason opener against Baltimore.

What to expect: Head coach Nick Sirianni hasn't decided whether his starters, including QB Jalen Hurts, will take any snaps.

    • Teams usually hold out their stars until later in preseason, fearing the risk of injury.

Yes, but: It's Philly, and that means every game matters to fans hoping to expel memories of last year's late-season stumbles, which followed a 10-1 start that had everyone dreaming of another trip to the Super Bowl.

Catch up quick: The Eagles endured an offseason of change after getting blown out by Tampa Bay in a brutal opening-round playoff loss that nearly cost Sirianni his job.

    • Sirianni shook up his coaching staff, including adding new offensive and defensive coordinators Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio.
    • Jason Kelce retired , and now Cam Jurgens will try to fill his shoes as the Birds' starting center.
    • The team added new pieces in the offseason, including running back Saquon Barkley who they lured away from NFC East rival the Giants.
    • They also locked down star wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith with multi-year, multimillion-dollar contract extensions.

The big question for the Eagles: Can Sirianni and Hurts repair their "fractured" relationship after last year's stunning collapse?

What they're saying: Hurts hopes to exert more control over the offense this season and is reportedly in "redemption mode."

    • "Even when we were 10-1, everyone was walking around like their dog died," a member of the Eagles told ESPN. "All year, instead of having fun playing, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, we lost the Super Bowl.'"

If you watch: You can stream the game live at 7:30pm on the Eagles' mobile app and website or with an NFL+ subscription.

Plus: For traveling fans, tickets are still available at M&T Bank Stadium ($52+).
