Global manufacturer Comtech moves headquarters from New York to Arizona

A major tech company is moving its headquarters from New York to Arizona and has chosen one of Chandler's growing employment corridors for its headquarters.

The big picture: Comtech, a global manufacturer of satellites, modems and other telecommunication equipment, will officially cut the ribbon Friday on its new HQ near Chandler Boulevard and 54th Street.

Why it matters: Local leaders are celebrating Comtech's decision to relocate as a testament to the tech and manufacturing boom happening in the state.

    • "There's a lot of great things happening in Arizona," interim CEO John Ratigan told Axios. "We believe we can benefit not only from the technology corridor itself but from the employee base that's here."

Zoom in: Comtech just completed its second summer internship program, where students from universities across Arizona got hands-on engineering and supply chain experience, Ratigan said.

Flashback: Comtech has had a presence in metro Phoenix for more than two decades and moved its Arizona operations to a newly constructed 150,000-square-foot commercial building in Chandler last year.

    • It announced the facility would become its official headquarters earlier this year.

Between the lines: Comtech also provides 911 infrastructure and earlier this year worked with the Arizona Department of Administration to transition the state's emergency response system to a "next generation" platform that aims to speed up response times.

What they're saying: "Publicly traded headquarters do not relocate often, but we have found that Chandler's robust talent pipeline and pro-business operating environment make a compelling case for corporate decision makers," Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said in a statement.
