Richmond's latest music series is the city's version of NPR's "Tiny Desk"

NPR's "Tiny Desk": move over for Richmond.

The big picture: The Martin Agency launched a live music series this week similar to the Tiny Desk concerts , which skyrocketed in popularity for their stripped-down, acoustic-style performances in an office corner.

    • Richmond's version — called "The Mix at Martin" — will tie its shows to the local music scene to introduce people to the city's rising stars and its music legends.
    • That includes rapper Nickelus F , who Drake once called "forever one of my idols."
    • He kicked off the series Wednesday afternoon in a private show of about 60 people, but eventually residents will be able to come in to the agency and hear the artists live, too.

Zoom in: The series is also a chance to get musicians in front of the agency's creatives and producers and help promote their brand, the agency's associate director of cultural impact Mariah Harris tells Axios.

    • It all began back in early June when agency producer Evan Frank got teams together to figure out how to launch it, Harris says.
    • The goal is to have a show every three months, with the agency's in-house production company, SuperJoy, onsite to shoot and edit the performances.

What's next: Determining the lineup for the next show, which Harris says hasn't been decided yet.

    • But Harris tells Axios, "We want people to be hitting us up on social and emailing us and being like 'You guys really need to be aware of this artist or this project.'"
    • The agency might also open it up to the national level and have artists stop by while on tour — and there's even a chance of taking the series up to their New York office, too.

The bottom line: Get your recommendations ready.

Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that about 60 people were at the Wednesday show, not 40.
