Your Outside Lands guide: Headliners, road closures and more

Outside Lands , the annual music festival in Golden Gate Park, returns this weekend with an expected 75,000 daily attendees.

Why it matters: You can expect traffic delays and road closures in and around the park from Thursday through next Wednesday.

State of play: The three-day music, food and arts festival, now in its 16th year, is expected to feature performers Sabrina Carpenter, The Killers, Sturgill Simpson, Post Malone and others.

Zoom in: Golden Gate Park's John F. Kennedy Drive from Transverse to 36th Avenue is closed until next Wednesday.

    • Beginning tonight at 8, vehicle access to the park will be limited and several parts of Golden Gate Park will be closed to the public, including Lindley Meadow, the polo field, Little Speedway and others.

Flashback: It took three years of planning and negotiations with city officials and neighborhood groups for Outside Lands to first come into fruition in 2008, SFGATE reports .

    • That year's event, which had about 60,000 daily attendees, was headlined by Radiohead, Jack Johnson and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
    • The impetus for Outside Lands was to feature local food, beer and wine and celebrate the city's art scene and counterculture roots, Spin reports .

What they're saying: "The whole mission was to create a platform for all of these awesome Bay Area artists — whether it's food, whether it's beverages, or whether it's visual art and for causes," Outside Lands co-founder Rick Farman told Spin last year.

Pro tip: Single-day and three-day tickets are still available, starting at $226.20.

    • If you go, be sure to wear layers! Karl the Fog is expected to stop by over the weekend — you've been warned!

What's next: Axios SF video reporter Claire Reilly will be on the ground at Outside Lands — be sure to follow our Instagram for updates from the festival!
