A man is being held in connection with the carjacking deaths Tuesday of 80-year-old dog walker Ruth Dalton and one of her dogs.

Driving the news: The suspect, identified by Seattle Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Bardon as Jahmed K. Haynes , 48, of Seattle, was arrested Wednesday.

    • Bardon said at a news conference that Haynes has eight felonies on his record.

Catch up quick: Dalton was in her car with several dogs in Madison Valley, near Martin Luther King Jr. Way East and East Harrison Street, when the suspect pushed her out, then drove over her, Seattle police said.

    • One of her dogs was later found stabbed to death in a recycling bin at Brighton Playfield on South Juneau Street.
    • Dalton's car was recovered nearby, and fingerprint evidence led detectives to the suspect, per the police department.

Flashback: Dalton started her dog walking business, Grandma's Critter Care, in 1989 to make money to send her her granddaughter Melanie Roberts to a private Christian school, Roberts said on a Facebook page created to share memories of Dalton.
